Drawing 2: Art Boogaloo

For more context, read the first post I made here.

It’s been over a year that started paying a course for drawing. And it’s been interesting. Learning is fun, and drawing is very difficult. Whoever told you it was easy doesn’t know anything.

What I chose

I don’t think I mentioned what I picked, but I went with digital, not paper. This is because I’m already immersed into the tech world and going for paper would be a bit difficult for me. And I admit that I like using layers for everything. They are so goshdarnit useful!

It doesn’t mean I can’t do it on paper but it’s a different set of skills to learn.

Original I had a tablet, a Samsung Tab S7 Lite 4G for it, but eventually replaced it for a 2-in-1 notebook, a Lenovo Ideapad Flex 14. This is because the tablet was started to be slow and I didn’t want to pay for a sub for Clip Studio, which is what I use for drawing. Clip Studio for Windows or Mac (no Linux) is a one-time payment, while for Android and iOS it’s a subscription. No way I’d keep paying it if I can pay for it once.

The 2-in-1 notebook has a touchscreen and can support an official pen by Lenovo, so I bought it. Turns out it’s super fun to use! Also the 2-in-1 notebook is a notebook, so I can use it to do stuff like writing and all that jazz. Pretty fun stuff.

Why now

A big reason to explain is why learn how to do it now of all times. There’s multiple reasons to explain.

First, prices for commissions are astronomical for me. My country doesn’t operate in USD or EUR but commissioners do and that can be quite pricey. I’m not trying to undermine artists for their jobs, but it can be a lot to pay, and so I decided to use that money to pay for my course.

Second, as I said in my first post, I’ve always liked drawing but didn’t go through due to life, money and such. But I have time to spare, and also money. So why not?

Third, I’m turning into a game dev, mostly indie (the true meaning of the word), and drawing raw concepts are required, so I’d rather do that myself, because reason 1, it’ll be expensive to ask for concepts and reason 2, I’d like doing it myself.

Posting

I’ve posted a drawing recently on Bluesky and I felt very proud of it, which I think it’s how it works, right? Hopefully I get around into posting more, once I make more stuff.
