Merry Christmas everyone, and also a Happy New Year. I wanted to post something else for the last post of 2025, but I decided that it would be a better treat to have fun poking holes at dumb tech stuff.
Windows 11
Yes, I know. I already talked about Windows 11 enough here. First it was a general talk, then something about killing Windows 10 that didn’t sit well with me. But this is a little different.
Microsoft, a company that became so large they would literally sell you shit and get away from it, did just that with Windows 11. First it was the interface, which hasn’t won anyone over. Then the constant annoyance of being slightly off for people that used their things. Then closing the circle, ‘you must upgrade to Windows 11’, people didn’t, so they decided to kill Windows 10 with a small caveat, and that won’t be enough to make people stop. The ‘new’ and ‘improved’ Search is even worse than ever… I could go on with this.
Even worse is the fact they went all in with AI and the push-back got to the point that they are changing things to have a deeper integration to the OS, so that people will actually use it, even if they don’t want to.
Recall was embarrassing, a feature that panned the moment it was presented and got such a backlash that it became a fully opt-in, something that Microsoft would never do in this day and age. But it did, because it reached the masses fairly quickly, and if people don’t know about tech know about your tech thing and how much it sucks, the only way to make sure it still exists is by downplaying it.
The more Windows 11 gets updated, the more embarrassing it gets, and that’s not even counting bugs that are introduced into updates. Very lovely.
There’s a lot more to talk about Windows 11 but I’ll leave it here. If you have used it, you know what I mean.
Xbox
More Microsoft because why not? It’s almost like an Xbox fanboy at this point. But I’m not, I wantthe company to do good, but they can’t.
I have talked them before as well, like how it was in need of a fix, and how it’s just dead as a brand now. So yeah. Xbox is just dumb at this point, run by a bunch of headless chickens. It’s almost they got all the dumb ideas from Sega during the Dreamcast era and decided to be worse.
This bit won’t be too big, just that you should know that liking something doesn’t make it good.
AI
Yeah, of course. You already know my stance on AI and also why we won’t be replaced. The discussion is different this time.
How sad is seeing the most boring and saddest uncool billionaires fighting to make something so utterly ridiculous a reality to get money from investors’ pockets? OpenAI has burned through so much money you’ll never see in 10 lifetimes that starts being outright hilarious. Elon Musk and his AI that talks more about him than anything is outright hilarious because he wants to be seen as the coolest guy in the room, he has money! All the money of the world! So cool, right?
All of this to show you a chatbot that does a Google Search and sum up something you still have to fact check because it often gets things wrong. Or generate a picture with 20 fingers in one hand. Lovely.
When I say that the bubble will pop and these people will lose money or break completely, I actually won’t feel bad. If believing that a robot will replace a human for a job that only a human can do is good enough for investors to give these people their millions or billions of US Dollars, I think they deserve to be fleeced from their money.
Apple Vision Pro
Another one. The Apple Vision Pro is flat-out a laughing stock. Too expensive, makes you look like a tool, and the use case for it is so small that it might non-existent. There’s no VRChat for it either so it might as well be 0 use cases.
I mentioned this before as well and I’d like to quote myself.
Buying an Vision Pro makes you look like a rich idiot.
Well, isn’t that great? I could go further than past me did. The Vision Pro is a solution looking for a problem to poach because most if not all of it has been solved already. Making calls, sending messages, watching videos? Your iPhone (or regular phone) can do all of those. Maybe it can’t do 3D like in the movies, but there’s a reason why 3D TVs died not once but twice: no one cares.
You can use it as a way to see the monitor from your Macbook or iMac. But… Like, what’s the deal of doing that? Wouldn’t it be better to just use the damn Macbook or iMac instead?
Final bit, it’s top heavy on your head, needs to have a battery to be recharged and plenty of apps aren’t native, like Netflix or Youtube, which would be perfect for this.
Don’t let the ‘Pro’ moniker disguise its massive incapable failure of a product. It was sold to consumers that wanted to try the future, to dip their toes in. Underbaked, underdeveloped, too expensive, makes you look like an idiot, doesn’t solve any problems, only creating new ones, and best of all: No VR Chat because ‘lol apple’.
Yeah, no. I think I’ll pass.
Final words
Yeah, that was fun, a bit shorter than I normally do, and there’s more products to talk about. Check out this video from Kappa Kaiju called ‘Cringe Tech‘, it can be very funny and informative.
The modern tech(bro) industry can be summed up by this Youtube comment:
Science fiction author: Writes award winning novel “Don’t Invent the Torment Nexus”
Some tech-bro half a century later: “We have finally invented the Torment Nexus from the famous award winning novel “Don’t Invent the Torment Nexus”
With that, I wish you a Happy New Year, and Happy 2026. Hopefully, it won’t be this bad.
